SUMMARY:Workshop: The Story We Need to Tell about Homelessness
DESCRIPTION:Homelessness is a top concern in the Bay Area\, and it’s closely tied to our work for housing and economic justice. It can also be hard to talk about—persistent myths and misperceptions\, strong emotions\, and lack of clarity on solutions can all be a challenge. \n Together we’ll discuss STB’s newest messaging resource\, How to Talk about Homelessness\, and unpack what’s working and what’s not in our conversations and communications about homelessness. \nThis workshop will focus on discussion and practice. Please review the messaging guide in advance\, and come ready to share what’s working for you\, your questions\, and what other resources you need to make the case that homelessness is a housing problem and we know how to solve it. \nRegister Now!

For the past nine months\, leaders\, organizers\, and communicators from California\, Colorado\, Detroit MI\, Louisiana\, Oregon\, and Washington participated in a Fellowship to explore the power and impact of applying the Housing Justice Narrative research to advance local\, state and federal housing campaigns\, and as a tool to organize and expand our base of supporters. The webinar will feature Fellows sharing the key lessons and take-aways applying the research and narrative tools to their organizing and housing advocacy work during the nine month Fellowship. \nOur regional Shift the Bay initiative has collaborated with the national housing narrative project for years. We see these efforts as complementary and encourage our Bay Area partners to join and learn from these national practitioners! \nRegister Today

SUMMARY:Reporter Roundtable: Housing & Racial Justice in Bay Area Media Coverage
DESCRIPTION:Media analysis of California housing coverage found that Bay Area news stories tend to lean on the harmful narrative trope of “If you can’t afford to live here\, move.” Reporters have an outsized role in setting the stage for the conversations that residents\, voters\, and decision makers hold on housing and racial justice. \nDespite the damaging headlines\, local reporters also care about our communities and many are eager to help start conversations that will contribute to change. That’s why we are hosting a roundtable with reporters from around the Bay Area to discuss candidly how we are shifting the narrative on housing justice and how their reporting can be a part of the change. \nOwing to the nature of this event\, this event is by invitation only.
